Chartered organisations
Royal Charters are granted by the Queen, on the advice of the Privy Council, and have a long history going back to the 13th Century. Nowadays, Charters are awarded to organisations that work in the public interest “which can demonstrate pre-eminence, stability and permanence in their particular field”.
Of the 145 Chartered bodies in the UK, many relate to professional services. For example, the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives believe that “there are many benefits that a Royal Charter brings to the public as well as to the Institute and its members, including… raised consumer awareness and confidence when seeking legal advice from suitably qualified, regulated lawyers.”
And did you know there are over 70 chartered qualifications available in the UK, including accountancy, financial planning, management and human resources - marketing is no different.
Chartered individuals
The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) exists to benefit its members by providing training and qualifications to enhance their careers: “Chartered status is present in most industries and is recognised internationally. It can enable you to stand out from your peers, secure new opportunities as you work your way through your marketing career, and demonstrates you stay up to date and relevant.”
And according to the Chartered Insurance Institute, “achieving Chartered status delivers benefits to your business, your staff, and your clients. Publicly committing to building consumer trust, putting customers first, and aligning your ethics and values will improve your perception amongst other professionals”.
Cal Partners – 100% chartered
Recently, Cal Partners’ Marketing Executive Alison O’Neill gained Chartered Marketer status, joining colleagues Rachel Wright and Chris Lucarelli who already hold the CMktr postnominal. Cal Partners Director, Chris Lucarelli, sees the value in professional qualifications and has supported the team throughout their CIM journeys.
Reflecting on what Chartered status means to her, Alison commented: “I trained and worked as a forensic scientist, moving gradually into marketing after my children were born. I have studied with CIM and been a Member for a number of years, so becoming a Chartered Marketer means a lot to me. It’s great to see the skills and knowledge I have built up over the last decade or more being formally recognised.”
Chris added: “We work with professional services and healthcare businesses who, having been through rigorous postgraduate and professional training themselves, as well as ongoing continuous professional development, recognise the value of Chartered status as a service excellence benchmark and a credible differentiator in an increasingly noisy market. The team is our greatest asset and encouraging them to reach the pinnacle of Chartered status cements our commitment to their professional development and achievement of their own growth aspirations. The CIM Chartered status’ ongoing CPD obligations ensures that our clients continue to benefit from the team’s training, experience and expertise.”
